F/S group shows flashes of future at conference meet
It has been a good year for the F/S group, as they continue to show flashes of what is to come in the future. The team finished 5th at the always tough WSC silver meet. There were some great performances that highlighted the night:
On the Track: Spilkey takes 3rd… “Diamond in the Rough” come up big
· Norths milers on top of their game with performances in the 1600 that highlighted a great night from the young Trojans. Jared Spilkey and Jack Diamond hammered a huge effort and got two big PR’s. Spilkey finished 3rd with a time of 4:39.56 and Diamond took home 5th with a time of 4:40.6. That was about a 10 second PR for both.
· In the 100, Sean Sandacz qualified for finals in 100 and made the most of the opportunity. He finished 3rd with a time of 11.9.
· Sandacz also made some noise in the 200, placing 5th with a time of 24.54. He was not alone in finals for North, as Kyron Belcher joined him and ran a 24.99.
· The 800m run featured two impressive young Trojans, Joe Carter and Robert Riorden. Carter was 5th with a time of 2:08.1 and Riorden was 6th with a time of 2:08.5.
· Mark Mathy continued a terrific season with another strong performance. He finished 6th place with a time of 10:13.
· Nick Donzal and Matt Metzler continue to break to barriers, or in this case, jump right over them. Nick and Matt took on the very tough hurdle event, only 4 weeks before conference and have made the most of the opportunity. Donzal took home 6th place and a time of 48.89. In the mean time, Metzler went 49.14, good for 4th place.
· The downers north 4x8 finished 3rd with a time of 8:33.85.
In the Field: Stiechmann stakes claim as best in the West… Suburban Conference Silver
· It felt like a good day to win a championship for Nick Stiechmann. And that is exactly what he did, with a huge performance in the shot, out throwing the 2nd best opponent by nearly 3 feet with a mark of 44-07. 3 feet might as well of been 3 miles for the competition today, because Stiechamann was not going to be denied.
· Max Sale could have been called Max Pain on this day, because of the pain he inflicted on his poor disc, hurling it 120—07. Sale’s mark was good for 3rd place to help the Trojan casue.
· Eric Wisz continued to do what he does best for the Trojans… Score Points. Wisz went 10-00 which was good for 3rd place. Business as usual for the F/S MVP.
· Kenny Yeo finished 8th place with a mark of 18-06 in the Long Jump
· Andrew Adams went 38-08 in the Triple, good for 7th.
It was a terrific year for the F/S group, some of whom will be running this Thursday at Lockport for the Sectional. It has been a great ride for this group. Look for big performances in the coming year for the young Trojans!
