Locktoberfest - Smith Wins the Varsity Race!

Locktoberfest Meet Summary – 2012

F/S

            The boys frosh opened up this beautiful September morning with a very nice race and some very solid improvements.  This young group just continues to improve throughout the year and gain valuable experience running against great competition.  This group was once again lead by Sophomores Zac Christensen and Jack McGinnis.  Then the rest of the top seven was rounded out by sophomore Dave DelValle, freshman Robby Prescott, freshman Ryan Cantlin, sophomore Dillon Murphy, and freshman Nick Torres.  All the sophomores improved their times from last year with the biggest improvement showed by Zac Christensen, he dropped 1:42!!  The F/S group ended up in 13^th place in the 23 team field.  Splits: 1-5 = 1:39, and 1-7 = 1:57

Open

            The Open race men did a very solid job today and we were witness to some of the biggest improvement of the day in this race.  The top finisher was Andrew Adams who finished in 6^th place with a time of 17:51 for the hilly 5k course, this was the second of two very solid races for Adams, he is heating up!  Dominic Chiappano and Stephen McCammon showed the biggest improvements from 2011, they showed improvements of 2:39 and 2:28 respectively. 

Varsity

              This varsity race was packed with 8 ranked teams in the top 25 for 3A.  So, it was a knock down drag out race for all 5k!  Zack Smith took over shortly after the mile and he never looked back!  Smith bested the field by 17 seconds to be the race champion and clearly someone to be reckoned with at Detwieller this November.  There were a number solid race efforts on Saturday, but some of the standouts were; Marc Mathy, Jeremy Craven, James Diamond, and Jack Diamond.  The Trojan Harriers were left with a bad taste in their mouth after the 8^th place finish (23 pts separated 4^th thru 8^th) but they are looking to rebound this Thursday in the home meet versus LT and OPRF.
