IHSA XC State Meet – Smith is All-State!!

            We made our way down to Peoria once again!  Zack Smith managed to finish second place at the Marist Sectional last week to secure his spot at the Fall Classic at Detweiller Park.  It was a great day on Saturday and the times in all the classes were blazing fast!  Multiple course records were set:  Glenbard West Madeline Perez set the new 3A girls course record and John Wold of Glenbard South set the 2A Boys course record, and Grant Nykaza set the 1A Boys course record as well!

            Zack managed to get out well with the rest of the leaders dispite being in an inside box.  He continued through the mile just behind the lead pack in 4:41.  Then he went through the mile and half mark in 7:04, blazing fast!  At that point Zack was still in the top 10 with a large chase pack looming behind.  As Zack went through the 2 mile mark in 9:38 he was still in a tight battle with Nile North’s Micah Beller for 7^th/8^th place.  Then as Zack pasted the 2.5 mile mark he moved past Beller to firmly move into 7^th.  Then coming up the final straight away Zack pushed hard to the finish only to be nipped at the line by Jesse Reiser of McHenry. 

            Zack’s 8^th place finish in a time of 14:33 ties the fastest time ever run by a North High runner ever at the state meet.  He was propelled by the cheering of a huge amount of teammates, friends, and parents!  Thank you so much for coming down to Detweiller to watch history in the making and the spectacle that is the State Cross Country meet.
