Richard Springs Memorial Invite -

Sunday, September 16 2012 - Peoria Notre Dame Invite

After a few discrepancies with the start time of the races, the Varsity guys only had about 20 minutes to get ready for their race.  But this group was unphased by these road bumps; they race effectively and efficiently.  In his first race of the season, Zack Smith lead the way with a 13th place with a time of 14:55.  The next four runner (Jared Spilky, Ben Eaton, Jeremy Craven, and Ryan Clevenger) filled into the shoot within 50 seconds.  Of the 10 guys who ran in this varsity race, 7 of them bested their times from 2011.  All of this added up to an 8th place finish in the 60 team, 545 runner field.  This team definitely has made a statement this weekend, that they deserved to be recognized as one of the top teams in the state.  But this team also recognizes that it is still September and there is a lot of work still needed to be done between now and November.  1-5 Split = 0:50, 1-7 Split = 1:28

The F/S men did an excellent job of competing throughout the entire race and managed to finish 10th out of 40 teams!  Joe Carter and John Diamond finished 22nd and 29th respectively in the 397 runner field to pace the young Trojan Harriers.  Jack McGinnis was back in the mix as well this week and he managed to best his 2011 time by 40 seconds.  He has proven again that he has the talent to be one of the top future runners on this team.  In addition, Zac Christensen, Dillon Murphy, and Dave DelValle bested their previous 2011 times on the Detweiller course by over a minute.  Plus, our freshman in this race battled well throughout the whole 3 miles and had some solid PRs.  1-5 Split = 1:35, 1-7 Split = 2:05

The Open Race guys did a great job in a field of over 300 runners.  There were many outstanding performances by a number of guys but no one bested their 2011 time like Alex Wherle!  Alex improved by 3 minutes!!  Alex proves that you don't have to be the most talented runner to continue to make huge improvements, he does it with consistency and hard work.  The Coaching Staff would like to thank Alex for his hard work and his great attitude that he brings to practice and this team on a daily basis.
