TRACK SENDS 26 ATHLETES TO DRAKE RELAYS
Thursday, April 27 2017 - Drake RelaysEastern Illinois men's and women's track returns to action this weekend as the Panthers travel to the Drake Relays to compete Thursday through Saturday. The Panthers will send 26 athletes to Drake to compete over the three days.
EIU will open competition on Thursday evening with Julie James and Michael Brown running in the men's and women's unseeded 800 meter run. EIU will have a team consisting of Myles Foor, Michael Mest, Tyler Yunk and Robby Prescott entered in the men's 1600 m relay. The Panthers will end the evening with Riley McInerney and Paxson Menard competing in the men's 5,000 meter run.
On Friday EIU will have athletes competing in both field and running events. Clayton Turner will compete in the men's javelin throw. Angelica Anyaogu will compete in the women's long jump while Chrisford Stevens will compete in the men's triple jump. Haleigh Knapp is entered in the women's high jump. Bryn Buckwalter will compete in the women's discus. Adam Kessler and Riley Kittridge will compete in the men's shot put. On the track Darneisha Spann will compete in the 100m women's hurdles and Kristen Paris runs in the women's 800 meter race. The EIU women will have a relay team in the 4x100 meter relay with Anyaogu, Spann, Anita Saffa and Nyjah Lane composing the relay squad.
The Panthers wrap up Saturday with Ruth Garippo and Rachel Garippo running the women's steeplechase. James, Paris, Saffa and Ivy Handley will compete in the women's distance medley relay. Jamal Robinson, Michael Miller, Lars Ott and Brown will represent EIU in the men's sprint medley relay. In field events Buckwalter will compete in the women's shot put. Stevens, Kendall Williams and Davion McManis will compete in the men's long jump.
Last week EIU competed at the Illinois Twilight turning in first place finishes by Julie James in the 800 meter and the women's 4x100 meter relay squad.
